Avocado's Gas Law

So now is the part where we go back to converting to moles but now we learn from gases to moles at STP (0 Degrees Celsius, 1 ATM) the conversion rate is 22.4L. Here is the Wiki page for avacados number. Its pretty basic just more moles more volume.

 

Charles Law

Next lesson was over Charles' Law, The formula for that is V1T2=V1T2 It is another one that isn't all that bad but I feel like over time they are going to add up and I'm gonna get them all tripped up in my head and mess up. Kahn Academy for assistance 

Gas Laws Intro

We just began the gas laws unit we stared with a fairly easy law that seems basic. We began with Boyle's law which is just P1V1=P2V2. A good way to remember this is Boyle's law doesn't boil because temperature stays the same. Here is an example of it from NASA!

Ice Cream and Tie Dye

So we finished our tests I didn't do very well on it but we got to make tie dye and ice cream on the 2 block schedule days. It was fun the ice cream was good and my tie dye turned out fairly well, so I guess I got some pretty good compensation for not getting a great grade....

Brand New Unit!

We just began our new Unit Energy and Phase Change it seems pretty easy just some math not that much. Here are a few links that involve energy and phase change.

Using Biodiesel

So now is the day where we actually get to use the Biodiesel that we had made, we are using them with a wick to create a flame to power a put-put boat engine. Ours managed to get second place which got us 10 extra credit points so thats awesome.

One of the slowest boats that were there, their boat filled halfway with water yet still managed to finish it was a site to behold.

Making Bio-Diesel

We are now making Bio-Diesel with chick-fil-a frier oil, and everything smells like pickles from there.  We are also adding some chemical to separate the fuel from glycerine. It was really interesting seeing how the layers separate.

So today we started making our video to promote the usage of Bio-Diesel, we are planning on making a mach cooking show where we make bio-diesel it was a pretty good idea and I feel the video went fairly well actually.  We get to make actual bio-diesel next so that should be fun.

Test

So we had our unit test yesterday and it felt good, I finished rather quickly and then had time to go back and double check it all. I'm hoping for an A but more realistically a B would be perfectly fine by me. Will update when the grades go in.

3D Man

So toady we learned that sadly our simple Lewis structure isn't quite that accurate, so we learned today how to do diagrams in 3D, its not that much more complicated, just have to memorize a few shapes and rules. This website (if you can ignore all the spammy ads) does a pretty good job at explaining it. And here are a few pics we took in the library while practicing this.

Lewis Structure

Today was the fist lesson of the new unit, bonding, we learned about Lewis structure and other things today. Something actually interesting that I learned is that certain atoms can go above 8 electrons, these atoms are ones in the P block in and below group 3 however the most common expanders are Sulfur, Phosphorus, Xenon, and Krypton.

Test

The last lesson we learned wasn't hard, basic stuff. I'm ready for this test i just need to know all the constants and remember Avraigados Number just incase there is an energy of a mol problem on there.
Edit I felt good about it i had 2 that  didn't have enough time for and a few I made dumb mistakes on I'm sure so I'm hoping for a B

Quiz

This quiz is gonna be easy I studied a lot, I know what I'm doing and I'm confident. All the stuff we have learned is fairly easy but I'm just waiting for that curveball that she throws at us that messed me up. Edit well I got a bloody nose half way through it which wasn't fun so I had to run to the bathroom fix that then come back and finish. EDIT2 I GOT A REALLY GOOD GRADE :))))

Quantum Numbers (Sounds Fancy, not that hard)

Today we learned about Quantum numbers which sound scary but really its just the identity of the atom and its electrons. Its just a few simple rules you have to remember about it for example if the electron config is 2P3 you take the first number and move it over so its 2 then the next would be the P which is equal to a 1 (S=0 P=1 D=2 F=3) and then it gets a little tricky you have to make an Orbital map. So in this case  it would be a 1 and then the election ends with a positive spin so its +1/2. So the quantum numbers would be 2, 1, 1, +1/2.

Today we watched a video, it was interesting. It was about fire works and how the colors work when the metals burn and how they get all the special effects on them which is pretty cool truly. It also was cool because we had a basic concept due to our Flame Lab it was also just a nice break because well we got to watch a video and this is the first time, ever.

So today we did a fun lab, we took a bunch of different salt solutions and then burned them. They all produced really beautiful colors so it was quite interesting.  It seems that my phone messed up so ill be pulling all my images from google.)

First Lesson

So today was our first lesson of the new unit! Today we learned about energy, wavelength, and speed! It was a semi easy lecture, theres just a few constants (Speed of Light and, Planck's constant) She says that this unit is easier than the last so I'm excited (and my grade is too...) I'll look up a few good videos for this unit/lesson and add them later.

Test

I feel that I did pretty well on this tests, Im not quite sure really. I felt like I knew all of it and I didn't guess on more than one, but you never can be sure with these tests. I was really hoping that wed have a snow day Thursday so I would have 5 days to study and prepare but I tried my best so theres nothing more that I could have done.

Molar Mass of an Unknown Acid

This lab was very similar to the vinegar lab. We began by titrating KPH again to standardize the base. Then we proceeded to dissolve some of this unknown solid acid in water then we had to heat it and stir it as it is rather insoluble. We then titrated it however this would turn pink and then it would change back to clear. In the end our results were very good as we got about 179 and the actual mass was close to 180. Later we were told it is none other than the acetylsalicylic acid that we had cooked up at the beginning of the year!
